Olivia Glass picked up a cello for the first time in fourth grade and it was love at first note. After eighth grade she began taking weekly private lessons with Ariel Witbeck and started attending the University of the Pacific music camp, becoming the principal cellist in 2006 and co-principal in 2007. During high school Glass competed in the Contra Costa String Association Young Artists’ Competition, garnering several first and second place awards. Principal cellist of the Livermore High School orchestra for four years, she was also a member of the Livermore Amador Symphony in 2005 and in 2007. She was selected twice to perform in the All State Honors Orchestra, and was awarded a command performance at the Solo and Ensemble festival in 2005 and 2008.
An admirer of musicals, Glass has been a cellist in the pit orchestras for State Fair and The Music Man. This year Olivia is a freshman Animal Science major at UC Davis and she is honored to be a part of the UCDavis Symphony Orchestra. One of her life goals is to play just one of the Bach cello suites at least half as well as Yo Yo Ma.
