Cynthia
Bates, concertmaster |
Cynthia Bates is longtime concertmaster of the UCD Symphony Orchestra. As best anyone can remember, she joined the orchestra in 1972/73 and has been concertmaster since 1974/75. She earned a BA in English in 1976 and an MA in 1979 as a poetry student of Karl Shapiro and others. Bates was a founding member of the Early Music Ensemble, in which she played vielle and treble viol; with that group she toured France and England, with a return visit to Winchester Cathedral in 1978 for performances of the EME's greatly admired production of The Play of Daniel. She has led the UCD Symphony's tours of California, British Columbia, and French Polynesia and Australia. Bates is employed at UCD as Lecturer in English and Director of the Subject A program. |
