CANDIDATE INFORMATION SHEET
FOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS
Thank you for your interest in applying for a Phi Beta Kappa Graduate Scholarship. Last year, our organization made awards to ten outstanding graduate students in the amount of $5,000 each. (One of these was a graduate student at UCDavis.) We encourage you to review the information below and to apply to your local campus coordinator. Please be sure to check the application deadline at your campus.

Eligibility Requirements (see also the Northern California Asssociation applicant page)
Applicants must have been elected to Phi Beta Kappa by a chapter in the United States. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a graduate or professional program in Northern California [specifically, in our case, UCDavis]. A student who has previously been awarded a scholarship is ineligible to apply. Selection Criteria
[The local selection committee typically refers three or four dossiers to the Northern California Association. There are usually between one and two dozen applications. Announcement of awards is made by the association, usually in April or May.]
The following will be considered by the Scholarship Committee in its review:
Demonstrable evidence that the applicant has in a creative way discovered something significant in the field of study---i.e. has found and original concept or has made an original contribution; Evidence of excellent academic performance in the form of undergraduate and graduate transcripts from every school attended. Official transcripts are much preferred, but unofficial transcripts are acceptable. [Local note: we try to return official transcripts to applicants when the selection process is complete.] Applicant's description of major accomplishments. A serious plan for future creative endeavor with reasonable expectation of being able to fulfill it.
