Self-taught as a violinist, he played for the Empress Josephine
in 1805 when she visited Aix; she took him to Paris to study with Lesueur. Orch.
Opéra 1816 (solo 1823). Organist St. Vincent-de-Paul, 1827. Violist, Quat.
Baillot. The viola d'amour solo in Les Hugenots was composed for him, and
he premiered Harold en Italie. In the Société concerts he
sometimes played a five-string violon-alto (c-g-d'-a'-e''). Composer of chamber
works.
